WESTBROOK, Maine — The family of a woman killed in Westbrook nearly 40 years ago is pleading for a resolution to the unsolved homicide.

Alice Hawkes was just 23 years old when she was found dead Oct. 4, 1987, in an apartment she shared with her boyfriend. Maine State Police consider the case a homicide. Her family says someone slashed Alice's throat.

State police said her boyfriend was out running errands but found himself locked out of the apartment when he returned, so he called the landlord to get let back in. That's when they found Alice dead inside.

Alice's family is working with a researcher to compile the facts about her case. Alice's niece, Jamie Driggers, is taking over the effort to keep Alice's case in the public.
