WASHINGTON (KFYR) - The U.S. Senate confirmed North Dakota State Superintendent of Public Instruction Kirsten Baesler as the U.S. assistant secretary of education on Friday.

Baesler will oversee federal policy for K-12 schools in her role with the U.S. Department of Education

“I look forward to serving in this new role and will resign from state service and join Secretary McMahon and the department’s leadership team once operational logistics permit, and I have ensured a smooth and effective transition,” she said in a statement.
