ROCKFORD, Ill. — A horrible accident after workers tried to lift a heavy object left one man dead.
Around 12:40 p.m. on Thursday, 38-year-old Horacio Prada Dominguez of Rockford was trying to move an 800-pound quartz stone slab with a coworker at C&I Stone Design at 2602 17th St. in Rockford.
The slab then started to slide toward Prada Dominguez. He tried to brace himself against it, but it pinned him between itself and another slab, and he was stuck.
911 was called, and both the Rockford Fire Department and Rockford Police Department responded. When firefighters arrived, they were able to move the slab off Prada Dominguez.
However, Prada Dominguez was found to be beyond resuscitation. Winnebago County Coroner's Office staff arrived and pronounced him dead at 1:25 p.m.
