WORCESTER, Mass. —
A fountain that has traveled decades and continents has found a new home in Worcester.
Standing at 30 feet tall, the fountain is proudly displayed outside the Beechwood Hotel.
The story of how it got there is something out of an Indiana Jones film.
The structure was originally cast in France back in the 1800s and erected in a park in Philadelphia in 1879.
Dr. Charles Birbara, owner of the Beechwood Hotel, says it has been a long journey for the 10-ton structure.
"After so many years of dreaming about this, it's great to see it come alive," Birbara said.
The city of Philadelphia decommissioned the fountain in 1945 when it fell into disrepair, and it switched hands for several years.
At one point, the fountain was even used as a lawn ornament.
