COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) - Texas A&M University broke ground Friday morning on what will be its new state-of-the art learning hub and welcome center named for Buc-ee’s CEO and Aggie Arch “Beaver” Aplin .

The university system’s chancellor and Texas Governor Greg Abbott were among the big names in attendance who spoke at the groundbreaking ceremony.

The Texas A&M Board of Regents approved the Aplin Center’s construction with a budget of $250 million in August. It will amass almost 212,000 square feet.

Speakers boasted Aplin’s legacy, specifically for the famously clean restrooms at Buc-ee’s.
