CEDAR KEY, Fla. (WCJB) - The dead fish are gone for now, but people still want to know how a fish kill happened and what to do if it happens again in Cedar Key.
Fishermen began reaching out to TV20 when they saw hundreds of dead fish and crabs floating in the water just a few days ago.
Fisherman Jayson Porter says the water was a red brown color with hundreds of dead fish and crabs floating. By Friday, the color of the water had returned to normal, and no more dead fish were visible.
When he reached out to FWC, they confirmed an analysis determined the oxygen in the water was 0.3 to 1.8 milligrams per liter, levels lethal for fish.
