Rite Aid, once a mainstay drugstore known for its in-store ice cream scoops, has officially closed all its locations.
“All Rite Aid stores have now closed. We thank our loyal customers for their many years of support,” the company said in a statement posted on its website.
The announcement follows years of financial struggles for the Philadelphia-based retailer, which filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy twice in less than two years, first in October 2023 and again in May.
The company’s website now only offers a tool to help former customers locate new pharmacies and a link to request prescription records.
Rite Aid was founded in 1962 in Scranton, Pennsylvania, as Thrift D Discount Center. At its peak, the chain ran more than 2,300 stores in 17 states.
