A South Florida father accused of kidnapping his young son with autism and taking him nearly 2,000 miles to Canada has fired his defense attorney and will represent himself in court.

Jorge Morales has been in jail for the past three years after authorities say he took his then-6-year-old son , Jojo, from his mother’s home and never returned him. The case made international headlines in 2022, when police launched worldwide alerts for the missing boy. Yanet Concepcion

It wasn’t until a tipster recognized the child with his father at a Walmart in Canada that authorities were able to track them down. Morales was arrested and extradited back to South Florida, where he now faces up to life in prison.
