ALABASTER, Ala. ( WBRC ) - No student, parent, or teacher ever wants to experience a school shooting, but some state-of-the-art technology that could be coming to more Alabama classrooms could protect people during an emergency.
At Thompson High School, teachers and staff walk around with nametags that may look simple but play a major role in keeping students safe.
By pushing a button on their lanyard, teachers can send out a staff alert if perhaps there was a fight, or trigger a full-fledged school lockdown in seconds.
“It was a lifechanging event in seeing the tragedy of what occurred in that school,” said Alabaster City Schools Superintendent Dr. Wayne Vickers.
Vickers visited the Parkland, Florida, high school where 17 students and others were gunned down back in 2018.
