LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Initial statements that gasoline prices could skyrocket in Las Vegas because of a refinery fire in Southern California are being scaled back, but the valley could still see an increase of 5 to 15 cents, according to analysts.

Fire crews have extinguished flames at a Chevron refinery in El Segundo, just outside of Los Angeles. By early Friday, the fire was contained and there was no threat to public safety, according to a report from The Associated Press.

"We still don't know the exact extent of damage," Matt McClain, a petroleum analyst with Gas Buddy said.

"Right now, we have a bit of an educated guess, if you will, that we do believe places like Las Vegas will see a bit of an uptick in prices," McClain said. Gas Buddy is now estimating the increase here could be any
