EVANS, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - When her mother faced a medical emergency, a local second grader knew exactly what to do.

Jordyn Norland, a Riverside Elementary student, stayed calm, dialed 911 and opened the door for first responders, actions credited with saving her mother’s life.

She received the school’s Hero Award and was also named Junior Officer of the Month by Columbia County School District School Resource Officer Saal.

School officials say Norland’s “courage and bravery” earned her this award.
