A woman who was shot in the head by Pittsburgh police while she was a passenger in a 2013 police pursuit died Thursday from her injuries, according to the Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Lena Davenport, 61, died from what the ME’s office termed “systemic complications of a gunshot wound to the head.” The manner of death was ruled homicide, as is protocol when any death is determined to be at the hands of another person.

Ms. Davenport was in a vehicle with her son, Donald Burris Jr., as they drove through Homestead shortly before 2 a.m. on Jan. 13, 2013. Authorities said he ran a red light near the intersection of Eighth Avenue and Hays Street. When officers attempted a traffic stop, Burris took off, police said.
