A man was beaten to death with a baseball bat following what Chicago police called a road rage incident on a South Side street running alongside the Dan Ryan Expressway during the Friday rush hour.

The 26-year-old victim, whose identity wasn’t immediately released, was bludgeoned about the body by the bat-wielding motorist around 3:45 p.m. in the 5400 block of South Wells Street, according to police.

The man was rushed to UChicago Medicine, where he was pronounced dead at 4:13 p.m., according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office. An autopsy is scheduled for Saturday.

The attacker fled the scene in a dark-colored SUV, police said. No arrests had been made as the investigation by Wentworth Area detectives was underway, police said.
