NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - North Charleston Police arrested a man during a traffic stop on Thursday morning after a stolen handgun was found in the vehicle.

Cordell Walston-Stone, 18, was arrested and charged with receiving stolen goods, operating an uninsured vehicle and failure to produce a driver’s license, according to the North Charleston Police Department.

Officers were patrolling near hotels around 2:15 a.m., when a vehicle with defective tag lights pulled out in front of them. When officers pulled Walston-Stone over, they noticed the smell of marijuana coming from the vehicle.

Officers performed a vehicle search based on probable cause and found a handgun wedged between the driver’s seat and center console.
