COVINGTON, Tenn. (WMC) - A Mid-South mom is behind bars on a $50,000 bond after police say she neglected and abused her two-year-old at a grocery store.

The Covington Police Department says the incident was captured on surveillance video.

Lashona Johnson, 25, of Dyersburg, is now charged with child abuse and neglect.

Her arrest came after a woman walked into a police station on Thursday to report possible child abuse that she witnessed while at the Cash Saver on Highway 51.

Officers responded to the store to review the security video and speak with employees.

The manager confirmed that an incident involving a mother and her two-year-old son had happened the evening before, on October 1.
