TELLING tales may be a good way of giving street appeal to a city's lonely lanes.
Armidale Mayor Sam Coupland is calling on the community to help rename five alleys in the city's central business district.
The lanes currently serve as functional walkways, weaving behind buildings and with little kerb appeal.
The Laneway Stories project developed by Armidale Regional Council aims to change that by creating a connected trail of stories.
Signage, heritage interpretation, murals, sound trails and art installations are also planned to turn the walkways into welcoming spaces.
"Each laneway tells a story, and by giving them meaningful names, we're creating a trail of heritage and identity that locals and visitors alike can explore and enjoy," Mayor Sam Coupland said on Wednesday, October 1.
