WELDON SPRING — Less than four minutes into Friday's league showdown with Francis Howell, visiting Troy Buchanan was up by two touchdowns.
But the Vikings responded, pulling even with about 2 1/2 minutes to play before halftime.
But this time, it was the Trojans who had the response. Marching 80 yards on 11 plays, Troy went to the break ahead by three points, thanks to Noah Vollmer's 36-yard field goal with half a second left on the clock.
Taking the second-half kickoff, Troy went 70 yards on 6 plays and stretched its lead to 10 points on a 4-yard scoring run by Chris Wenger.
Troy went on to a 43-27 victory, improving to 5-1 overall and 3-0 in the Gateway Athletic Conference South Division. Howell is 3-3 and 2-1.
