State pensioners won't receive their state pension on their 66th birthday, they've been warned. State pensioners face having to wait five months for their payments from the Department for Work and Pensions ( DWP ) under a shake-up.

One future claimant wrote into former Liberal Democrats Pensions Minister Sir Steve Webb to ask: "I will receive my state pension at the end of November 2026, even though my birthday is at the end of July when I will be 66.

"Can you tell me why I have to wait until the next November to receive it and not at the end of July? Will the missing three or four months be reimbursed or taxed?"
