Councillors in Stockport are calling for a new policy to control the type of shops on a busy high street, in an attempt to stop an ‘excessive clustering of takeaways, vape shops and barbershops.’

The plan is focused around Castle Street in Edgeley, based near Stockport town centre and the borough’s main train station.

Concerns are growing that traders on the street are struggling to survive and need more support from the town hall, including a new long-term strategy for the area.
