Lake Norman opened play in the new North Piedmont 6A/7A Conference with a bang Friday night.

The Wildcats (4-2, 1-0) put up 21 points in the second quarter and cruised to a 35-0 victory at previously-unbeaten Statesville (5-1, 0-1).

“I told the guys all week that you don’t get many opportunities to end somebody’s perfect season so when you get an opportunity to do that, you do that,” Lake Norman coach Jonathan Oliphant said. “You execute.

“I felt good about our week of practice and our preparation,” he continued, “and when we got here I felt like our kids were ready. I’m glad they executed and did their job.”

The Wildcats turned two Statesville fumbles into touchdowns during the second quarter.
