The West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection extended a long history of approving air quality permit applications despite local opposition Thursday, setting aside community member and advocate objections to approve applications for facilities designed to power data centers in Mingo County.
The DEP’s approvals of air quality permits in response to two nearly identical applications filed in March by New York City-based TransGas Development Systems LLC followed two meetings, one held virtually in August and one in the Mingo County town of Gilbert last month, at which environmental health concerns abounded.
