PROVO, Utah – No. 23 BYU football became the ninth team in program history to begin the season 5-0 after handing West Virginia a 38-24 loss.

An ESPN game on a quiet college football Friday night gave the Cougars another chance to be seen by pundits across the nation.

ESPN morning show host and bombastic personality Pat McAfee started the love fest, responding to a fan in the third quarter as the Cougars dominated West Virginia in a 28-10 first half.

True Freshman QB Bear Bachmeier set a passing career-high with 249 first-half yards while throwing for one score and running for another.

His fifth rushing score of the year surpassed Taysom Hill (2012) for the most by a freshman QB in program history.
