100 Years Ago, 1925: Mark J. Cummings of West Mowry Street was installed Thursday evening as Grand Knight of Americus Council No. 242, Knights of Columbus, at a largely attended meeting held in the K. of C. home, Ninth Street and Deshong Drive. The meeting was followed by a luncheon.

75 Years Ago, 1950: A break in an eight-inch main flooded Fifth and Market streets with several inches of water early Tuesday night. Hundreds of gallons of water, which had accumulated beneath the surface, gushed out of manholes and forced its way through the street at several points. Eight inches of water poured into the basement of Silver’s store at the northwest corner, causing damage estimated at between $1,200 and $1,500.
