DES MOINES, Iowa —

A Des Moines man is facing felony charges following a Friday stolen car chase and subsequent crash that sent one to the hospital.

Eighteen-year-old Marco Decarlo Hayes has been charged with first-degree theft, felon in possession of a firearm, and leaving the scene of a crash causing injury.

During the search for the suspect who ran away from the crash, the Des Moines Police Department says one of their detectives spotted Hayes getting into a vehicle east of the crash scene.

Investigators say they followed the vehicle, later discovered it was an Uber, and pulled it over. That's when they say Hayes was taken into custody.

While arresting Hayes, officers say they found a rifle concealed under his clothing.
