Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday alleged that certain groups attempted to derail the investigation into singer Zubeen Garg’s “murder or death” by creating unrest in Guwahati on the day of the tragedy.
Addressing the public in a Facebook Live session, Sarma said, “Those who used to invite Bangladeshi singers like Momtaz to Assam suddenly declared themselves ‘Zubeen fans.’ This community was misusing the grief of genuine fans to strike back at us for acting against encroachers and infiltrators.”
He further remarked, “You may dislike the government for carrying out evictions, and you may be angry with me for that. But don’t use Zubeen as a shield to take revenge.”
