KIRKWOOD — A vacant lot in a prominent corner of downtown Kirkwood could soon be replaced by a new apartment and retail complex.
TriStar Properties wants to build a four-story, 60-unit apartment building at 300 North Kirkwood Road, in the suburb’s downtown business district. The building would include 4,800 square feet of ground floor commercial space, a public gym and a patio facing the corner of Kirkwood Road and East Adams Avenue.
The Kirkwood City Council sent TriStar’s plan back to the planning and zoning commission last week, after the developer tweaked its original conceptual design to address concerns the project wouldn’t match the character of the historic suburb, which was established in the mid-1850s as a rail commuter town.
