GERMANTOWN, Tenn. -- Seventy-two cyclists are traveling more than 500 miles from Germantown to Florida to raise money for the fight against cancer Saturday.
The story behind the ride is one that Chuck Bolton holds close to his heart. Fifteen years ago, he grabbed his bike and cycled to Florida as a way to cope during a difficult time in his life.
But he wasn't alone. Several riders joined him.
"We found out later that our wives actually had a plan year one that each one had a day that they would pick us up if we got lost or we needed to quit," said John Kakales, a founding rider.
But the group of friends never gave up on the ride or each other. In fact, the ride grew, the riders multiplied, and the purpose expanded.
