BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) -- Court records show that both second-degree murder charges against Derrick Coleman, 37, have been dismissed.

Coleman was arrested in September 2023 in connection with a shooting on Townsley Street that left two people. The Baton Rouge Police Department said Coleman believed one of the victims was responsible for killing his father earlier that day.

The charges were dismissed without prejudice, meaning prosecutors can refile them in the future if new evidence arises. The court also released Coleman from his bond related to those charges.
