NORMAN — Fresh off a bye week, OU football hosts Kent State on Saturday.
Michael Hawkins Jr. will start at quarterback for the Sooners against the Golden Flashes as John Mateer continues to recover from surgery. Hawkins started four games for OU last season, passing for 783 yards and three touchdowns.
The Sooners enter the matchup undefeated with one of the best defenses nationally. Meanwhile, Kent State has lost three consecutive games and ranks second to last in the country in points allowed per game.
The game will be OU's last against a non-conference opponent this season. The rest of the Sooners ' slate features perhaps the toughest competition on any schedule the rest of the way: vs Texas (in Dallas), at South Carolina, vs Mississippi, at Tennessee, at Alabama
