In 2022, after he had first run for attorney general and left the House of Delegates, Jay Jones texted a GOP delegate fantasizing about shooting then-Speaker of the House Todd Gilbert, R-Shenandoah, and about harm coming to Gilbert’s children, according to Del. Carrie Coyner, R-Chesterfield.

The National Review first reported on Friday afternoon the string of texts from Jones in which he said that if he faced a hypothetical situation with Gilbert, Hitler and Pol Pot and he only had two bullets, that Gilbert would get “two bullets to the head.”

Coyner confirmed the authenticity of the texts to the Richmond Times-Dispatch through a spokesman for the House GOP Caucus.
