Australians will have 20 per cent of student debts wiped off from the middle of November 2025 as the Labor Party pushes ahead with its pre-election promise.
About half of students will have their HECS/HELP debt cuts from November 2025 and the other half will get the reduction by December 2025.
Education Minister Jason Clare confirmed the timeline on Sunday, declaring the long-promised cut will provide meaningful relief for students and graduates.
“We promised we would cut your student debt by 20 per cent, and we are delivering. This is a big deal for three million Australians,” Mr Clare said in a statement.
“This cut is already locked in to people’s balances at 1 June, but soon they will be able to see it and feel it.
