Communications Minister Anika Wells has summoned the chief executive of Optus amid mounting concerns over the reliability of the Triple Zero emergency network.

Optus suffered two Triple Zero failures in less than a fortnight , one of which was linked to four deaths.

Ms Wells has since promised to fast-track new laws to appoint a national Triple Zero guardian.

The Communications Minister has faced mounting criticism over her response to the crisis after she said she was “still a new minister” to the industry in crisis.

In a letter sent to telco CEOs—Optus’s Stephen Rue, Telstra’s Vicki Brady and TPG’s Iñaki Berroeta—Ms Wells asked them to meet her in Canberra on Tuesday.

Ms Wells wrote that “outages have occurred and more needs to be done by telecommunications companies”.
