PORTER TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A 16-year-old with autism was found dead Saturday after walking away from his family’s camper at a Cass County campground.

The Cass County Sheriff’s Office says deputies were dispatched shortly after 9 a.m. Saturday to the Willow Shores Campground on US-12. Police said the missing teen, Kyle McMannis, was nonverbal.

Several neighboring agencies helped with the search effort, including the Cass County Sheriff’s Office Drone Team and a MedFlight helicopter. A K-9 tracked the teen to nearby Baldwin Lake. At approximately 3:25 p.m., a drone pilot spotted the teen’s body in the water. A dive team pulled him from the water and he was declared deceased.

The Cass County Sheriff’s Office says the incident remains under investigation.
