The Toronto Blue Jays had a decisive win against the New York Yankees Saturday, with a 10-1 finish in their opening game of the American League Division Series at Toronto’s Rogers Centre.
Going into the game, the two teams were tied with 94 wins and 68 losses, and New York’s home run count of 274 far outweighed Toronto’s 191.
But the numbers meant little in Saturday’s game against the Blue Jays’ get-on-base strategy.
And get on base they did, with heavy hitter, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. opening up with a home run, giving the Blue Jays a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first.
Guerrero Jr.’s magic transferred to his fielding with a double-play in the top of the second.
Then, in the bottom of the second, Alejandro Kirk stepped up and delivered a solo home run, sending the ball nearly 400 feet
