A hike through the trail-filled lot behind her North Cowichan home, has for years been a calming space for Brenda Kuecks and her neighbours.
“It’s nearly 10 acres of beautiful, undeveloped land, among many big subdivisions,” Kuecks told CHEK News on Saturday.
Yet right now, the future of the tree-filled greenspace on Donnay Drive South is dividing the people around it. The 9.6-acre property is privately-owned and currently up for sale for $1.2 million dollars.
Kuecks and neighbours have asked North Cowichan to buy it and make it a park. So council has asked the immediate neighbours to pay for it.
“Why would it just this neighbourhood paying for it, when its going to belong to all of North Cowichan,” said Clint Horsman, who lives near the park.
