BEMIDJI — On Dec 3, 1999, Bemidji State women’s hockey forward Kerri McEwen set the program record for most goals in a game.
McEwen scored four times in the Beavers’ 15-3 road win over now-defunct Wayne State. Current BSU head coach Amber Fryklund was a teammate of McEwen in 1999.
“She was a goal-scorer, a good player,” Fryklund recalled. “I don’t remember that game, but that doesn’t surprise me that she scored four.”
It’s a record that’s stood alone for the better part of 26 years. That was until Hailey Armstrong showed up at the rink on Saturday afternoon.
The junior captain scored four times in a 4-1 win over Robert Morris, pushing BSU to its first sweep this season. Armstrong became the first BSU player to score four times at home.
“It’s awesome for me, but with this team, it goes
