SANTA FE, N.M. —

New Mexico State Police and the Pojoaque Police Department are asking for the public's help to find Joel "Deano" Valdez, a father who was last seen Sept. 18 at Wells Fargo in Santa Fe.

Police say Valdez stopped at the ATM while driving home from work in Silver City to his family in Coyote and was expected to pass through Española.

Valdez, who is 5-foot-11 and about 170 pounds, was last known to be driving a white truck with New Mexico license plate 248 THP.

Family members say Valdez is known for helping others and worry he may have stopped to assist someone.

"People don't disappear in the middle of the day," said Monique Garcia, Valdez's cousin. "This is completely out of character. He wouldn't leave his children waiting for him."
