ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. —

At long last, the eight-story critical care tower addition to the University of New Mexico Hospital was scheduled to begin receiving adult emergency patients at 5 a.m. Sunday, marking the beginning of a new medical level and capacity as a Level 1 trauma center.

Going forward, adults needing emergency care should be dropped off at the new adult emergency department entrance on Yale Street, near Lomas Boulevard. Visitors should go from the parking garage to the second floor, then cross the sky bridge and go down to the B level to the adult emergency room.

The former emergency room will now be the pediatric ER, with the drop-off at Lomas Boulevard and Stanley Street.

UNMH received its accreditation in 1983, the highest verification by the American College of Surgeons.
