At a time when physician shortages strain healthcare access across B.C., the charity that’s opening doctor clinics on the Saanich peninsula is eyeing an expansion.

“There’s so many on the peninsula that yet don’t have a physician, about 14,000 of them, and we just don’t feel like our work is done until everybody on the peninsula has a family doctor or nurse practitioner,” said Leslie Keenan, Shoreline Medical Society’s executive director.

Shoreline currently operates two clinics: one in Sidney and another in Brentwood Bay. Keenan says they offer primary care to 15,900 plus patients.

“What we’re hoping for is a more central location,” said Keenan.
