When Alabama football first gave Kadyn Proctor the ball this season, the play had been installed since preseason camp. On Saturday, when Proctor picked up a first down rushing against Vanderbilt, it was on shorter notice.

“Not as long,” Crimson Tide head coach Kalen DeBoer said after the game. “Less moving parts on this one. Just give it to the big man and let him rumble.”

Proctor lined up in the backfield to the left of Ty Simpson on the third-and-one play in the fourth quarter. Before the snap, Simpson ran up under center, then handed the ball to his regular left tackle.

The 359-pound Proctor bruised his way to two yards and the first down. The Crimson Tide wound up winning Saturday’s game 30-14 at Bryant-Denny Stadium.
