BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - The Baton Rouge Police Department has upgraded the charges against one of the men arrested in connection with the September 17 shooting death of Joseph Mitchell.

Larry Thompson was initially booked into East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on possession of a machine gun, possession of Schedule I CDS, and possession of a firearm with CDS.
Police now say Thompson is also facing charges of first-degree murder, four counts of attempted first-degree murder, and illegal use of weapons or dangerous instrumentalities.
The shooting happened in the 3900 block of Eleanor Drive. Officials said Mitchell was walking in the roadway when he was shot
