Despite buzz of Oct 30 take-offs, CIDCO chief says ‘not so soon’

Though the Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) is scheduled to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 8, commercial flight operations will only begin in the first week of December.

CIDCO Vice Chairman and Managing Director Vijay Singhal has clarified that despite the buzz that flights would start as early as October 30, the interval between inauguration and operations will be used to complete critical calibrations, final regulatory clearances, and system trials. Singhal said, “The ceremony will commence with a full inspection of the terminal, runway and passenger facilities symbolic of the airport’s readiness.”
