LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - The Harvest Homecoming Parade rolled through New Albany, marking the beginning of a yearly tradition that ended in tragedy one year ago.
The parade was filled with over-the-top fall floats, vintage cars, loud bands and much more.
The festival is a beloved tradition for many in the area, but one year ago, it ended in gunfire.
Police say a dispute between two groups left 18-year-old Bryce Gerlach dead and two others injured.
Now organizers are taking extra steps to prevent a similar situation.
Some safety measures include closing earlier on Friday and Saturday, security fencing, enhanced lighting and a security camera system.
There will be several events throughout the week leading up to the main booth days, Thursday through Sunday.
