A fireman continues to spray the burning timbers of the sheep barn at the Campbell County fairgrounds, even though the structure has nearly been consumed by flames. The adjacent, larger barn had also caught fire at that point and is shrouded by smoke.

Flames consumed a decades-old sheep barn in the eastern part of the Campbell County Fairgrounds and half of the “big barn” built by WPA crews in the 1930’s, but the cause and the costs of the afternoon blaze remain largely unknown. All that County Agent Mel Lynch could say is that the sheep building will be replaced by a modern structure, and the remaining half of the large barn will be repaired.
