The mother of the man who shot and killed a Sheridan police officer in 2024 was sentenced to prison this week for providing her son with a firearm and for lying to investigators and federal agents.

Eileen Marie Hurley, 71, of Sheridan, was sentenced Wednesday to 12 months and one day in federal prison with one year of supervised release for transfer of a firearm to a prohibited person and for making a false statement during the purchase of a firearm. The sentence was handed down by U.S. District Court Judge Alan B. Johnson in Cheyenne.

According to court documents, in May 2022, Hurley bought three handguns and ammunition for William Lowery. She specifically filled out Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives forms where she swore that she was the actual purchaser of the handgu
