The Conservatives are pledging to create a new “removals force” to detain and deport a 150,000 people a year.

Modelled on the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency, the force would get a £1.6bn in funding as part of “sweeping new powers” to tackle immigration.

The pledge will be unveiled by Tory leader Kemi Badenoch at the party conference where “strong borders” will be a key theme.

Separately, Home Secretary, Shabana Mahmood, is to introduce new restrictions on protests.
