Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Saturday that the viscera examination report for late singer Zubeen Garg is expected to be submitted by October 10. This report is crucial to the ongoing investigation into the circumstances surrounding Garg's death, which occurred on September 19 in Singapore. The Chief Minister emphasized that police are diligently recording all witness statements in the case diary, clarifying that recent media discussions about poisoning are based on claims made by an accused individual, not on official police findings.
Sarma stated, "The police's duty is to record everything in the case diary as stated by witnesses. Some will say positive things, and others will say negative things, and the police will continue to document it all. However, these are not police statements; they are only witness statements." He further explained that the context of the poisoning claim will be clarified during the investigation, as it is part of a witness statement.
The Chief Minister also called on the Assamese community to encourage key suspects currently in Singapore to return and cooperate with the investigation. He noted, "Today, we are more concerned about whether the Assamese people currently in Singapore will return to cooperate with the investigation. If they do not come, we cannot complete the investigation."
Among those already in custody are Shyamkanu Mahanta, Siddharth Sharma, Shekhar, and Amritprava Mahanta. Sarma expressed confidence that their statements would help uncover the truth behind Garg's death. Allegations have surfaced from Zubeen's bandmate, Shekhar Jyoti Goswami, who claimed that the singer was poisoned and that the manager and event organiser had chosen a foreign venue to conceal their actions.
The investigation has also seen the involvement of a one-man inquiry commission led by Justice Soumitra Saikia of the Gauhati High Court. As the case unfolds, the focus remains on gathering evidence and ensuring the return of key individuals to facilitate a thorough investigation into the tragic incident.
