A woman and a child were left trapped in their car after a tree fell on it at the height of Storm Amy on Saturday morning.

Firefighters, police and paramedics rushed to the scene of the incident, which happened in the Dunstone area of Plymstock , and managed to free the woman and child, who were checked over by paramedics at the scene.

The first call to the incident came in at 11.18am, and a fire crew from the Greenbank fire station in Plymouth raced across the Laira Bridge to reach the stricken pair within minutes.

The incident happened as the winds from Storm Amy reached their peak on Saturday morning, after a yellow weather warning was issued by the Met Office.
