Roger Ebert used to say, “it's not what a movie is about, it's how it is about it.” That holds true and has for decades, with some caveats. “ One Battle After Another, ” the new film from Paul Thomas Anderson — director of 1997's “ Boogie Nights ” and 2007's “ There Will Be Blood ,” among many other acclaimed films — stretches Ebert’s keen notion to its breaking point.

“One Battle After Another” follows Bob (Leonardo DiCaprio), a paranoid ex-evolutionary, who survives off grid with his daughter, Willa (Chase Infiniti). When his past adversary, Col. Steven J. Lockjaw (Sean Penn), kidnaps Willa, Bob must fight his way to find her as both father and daughter come to terms with the ramifications of their past. Arts & Entertainment
