A man has been arrested following a shooting incident in Croydon Park, a suburb in inner-west Sydney, that left four people injured. The New South Wales Ambulance reported that one individual was transported to Canterbury Hospital with a gunshot wound. Paramedics also treated another person at the scene. Additionally, two individuals arrived at Campsie Police Station with what the ambulance service classified as minor injuries.
The arrest occurred around 9:30 p.m. AEDT in a building on Georges River Road, where police confiscated firearms from the suspect. During the arrest, officers were heard instructing the man to "put your hands up" and "get down."
Earlier in the evening, police confirmed that multiple gunshots had been fired, including shots directed at police vehicles. Tactical police units were deployed to the area, arriving in an armored Bearcat vehicle. An ABC reporter present at the scene reported hearing gunfire around 9 p.m., followed by a series of loud bangs, which witnesses indicated were likely flash grenades.
In response to the incident, police have secured the area, closing Georges River Road between Croydon Avenue and Seymour Street, as well as Brighton Avenue between Georges River Road and Queensborough Road. Road closures remain in effect, with local traffic being diverted as authorities continue their investigation.
